Joyfully Changing My "Profile"

Ever since I began this blog, over a year ago, my Blogger profile has remained the same. It has said, "I am a follower of Jesus Christ. God has blessed me with a wonderful wife and three great children. My theology is Bible-driven, Reformed, and Baptistic. I am a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. My family and I were recently serving the Lord overseas, but returned home to the USA when my son was diagnosed with Lymphoma. We praise the Lord for healing Bobby! We are now seeking the Lord's direction for our lives."

I'm thrilled to write that I can now change part of my profile. Because God has been gracious to lead me to pastor Chevis Oaks Baptist Church, I can alter the conclusion of what you see above. Now it says, "I am a follower of Jesus Christ. God has blessed me with a wonderful wife and three great children. My theology is Bible-driven, Reformed, and Baptistic. I am a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. I am thrilled and blessed to be the pastor of Chevis Oaks Baptist Church near Savannah, Georgia."

I praise the Lord for saving me. I praise the Lord for my family. I praise the Lord for sending us to India and bringing us home. I praise the Lord for giving Bobby cancer and for healing him. I praise the Lord for sending me to seminary, somehow getting me to graduation, and now letting me pastor a church. What a great God we serve!

Congrats and blessings to you, Eric. I love Savannah and I believe you will love pastoring there.

Jim,

Thank you for the kind words. I feel amazingly blessed by God and completely unworthy. I hope God keeps me feeling the same way as the years progress.

Savannah is a beautiful city. I can't imagine being anywhere else.

It's good to hear from a fellow Georgian.

God bless in your ministry.

Glad to hear the good news. I've been sending my resume around the map this summer (I'm wrapping up an M.M. in August), but to no avail. In the meantime, I reckon I'll plod on towards an M.Div. Shoot me a line if you need an assoc/education/youth pastor, or if you know of a reformed Baptist church on the east coast that is looking.

.,

I'm not sure what to call you, but I'll try to answer you anyway.

I wish Reformed Baptist churches were larger in number. Unfortunately, although the number is increasing, there just aren't that many yet.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and get the M.Div. God will send you where He wants you regardless of the resume situation.

Sorry, Eric. I was modifying my profile and didn't realize the implications it would have on blogs other than my own.

Let me ask you this:

Would it be ill advised for me to seek employment in a non-reformed church?

Richard,

I suppose it would depend on how patient you can be. If you want to teach, for example, a class on the 5 points of Calvinism, then I would suggest only focusing on Reformed churches.

However, if you are willing to just teach through bible passage after bible passage, then you would be OK in a non-Reformed church. I'm convinced that if a pastor will teach year after year through the scriptures, the people of the church will gradually become Reformed even if they know nothing of John Calvin. This is because, obviously, the doctrines of Grace, are biblical.

Hi Eric...I understand your answer, but I was asking from the position of an associate or youth pastor. Obviously working under the leadership of a non-reformed pastor will interfere with my ability to teach Scripture in what I believe to be an accurate matter.

Do you think that attemping to work under someone not like me is even worth trying?

Richard,

Right from the start, I would be up-front with the pastor. If he had no problem with your Reformed theology, then I think it could work. If he has a real problem with it, then I wouldn't go there.

The key is to lay "your cards on the table" and see what God does with it.

God bless, Eric

Can't go wrong there.

Thanks for the advice, Eric.

Richard,

You're welcome. I know God will plant you in a place where He will use use for His kingdom.
